This is a National Vocational Qualification which means that this qualification has been developed to be achieved in a real work environment. You need to be employed to undertake this qualification.

This qualification will enable you to demonstrate and recognise your skills, knowledge and understanding and to demonstrate your competence in a real workplace environment so you can work within the construction industry as a skilled worker.

After completing this qualification, you will be able to apply for a CPCS card.

Who is is qualification designed for?

This is a competence-based qualification for those who work in the construction industry. The NVQ is used to show that you are competent and knowledgeable in your current role/ trade. Achievement of this qualification provides a candidate with proof of competency across the trade.

The awarding body for this qualification is ProQual Awarding Body and the regulatory body is the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual).

Qualification structure

To achieve the qualification candidates must complete all of the Mandatory units.

  1. Developing and maintaining good occupational working relationships in the workplace
  2. Supervising lifting operations using lifting equipment in the workplace
  3. Maintaining the dimensional accuracy of work in the workplace
  4. Co-ordinating preparation work for site or lifting operations in the workplace
  5. Allocating work and checking people’s performance in the workplace
  6. Maintaining systems for health, safety, welfare and environmental protection in the workplace
  7. Co-ordinating and organising the control of work in the workplace
  8. Allocating and monitoring the use of plant, equipment or machinery in the workplace

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification. However the candidates should be working within the industry to enrol in this NVQ.

Here at DB College we are conducting an initial assessment of candidate skills and knowledge to identify any gaps and help plan the assessment.

Assessment

Assessment is the process of measuring a candidate’s skill, knowledge and understanding against the standards set in the qualification.

This qualification is competence-based, candidates must demonstrate the level of competence described in the units.

The qualification will be assessed in line with the Construction Skills Consolidated Assessment Strategy and will be internally assessed by an appropriately experienced and qualified Assessor.

The assessment process is conducted through our e-portfolio system and it is formed of two parts:

  1. Knowledge – the candidates are required to complete a workbook
  2. Practical – evidence to be collected from site visits
