Why the package

The whole fire door pathway, under one roof

Install to a recognised NVQ standard, then inspect and certify with the Level 3 Award. Taken together they cover both halves of the job — and both attract the same £600 CITB grant.

01 — Two in one

Installer and inspector

One programme, one assessor, one set of site visits. You come out qualified to fit fire doors and qualified to inspect and report on them.

02 — Grant funded

£600 back on each

A £600 CITB grant is available on each qualification — £1,200 across the package for CITB levy-registered employers. We supply the certification evidence for your claim.

03 — No lost days

Assessed on site

The NVQ has no classroom and no exams. Our assessor visits your live projects and observes the work you are already doing.

04 — Card route

CSCS Blue Card guidance

The Level 2 NVQ is the qualification behind the Blue CSCS Skilled Worker Card. We guide installers through the application once the NVQ is awarded.

05 — Regulated

ProQual, externally verified

Both qualifications are ProQual and Ofqual-regulated. Assessment is led by Bogdan Drosu MCIOB CertIOSH and externally verified by ProQual.

06 — Teams

Group and contractor bookings

Certify the whole squad in one programme. Site visits are arranged around your schedule rather than ours.

How it works

Simple, on site, around your work

Step 1

Scoping call

We confirm each candidate’s experience, agree the Level 2 optional units and book the Level 3 e-learning access.

Step 2

Enrolment & registration

Candidates are registered with ProQual. Initial assessment is completed remotely — no time off site.

Step 3

On-site assessment

Our assessor visits your live projects: observing fire door installation for the NVQ, and inspection and testing performance for the Level 3 Award.

Step 4

Certification & grants

ProQual certificates are issued on achievement. We provide the evidence for your £600-per-candidate CITB grant claims, plus CSCS Blue Card guidance for installers.

The package price

Take both together

Install to a recognised NVQ standard, then inspect and certify with the Level 3 Award.

The complete fire door pathway

Both qualifications, one programme, one assessor.

£1,498 total fees £1,200 CITB grants = £298 effective cost for both

CITB grant note: the £600 grants are paid by CITB directly to CITB levy-registered employers on achievement, under the grant rates applicable from January 2026. DB College will support your grant claim with the certification evidence required. Grant eligibility and payment remain subject to CITB’s rules and your levy registration status. The £1,498 course fee is payable to DB College in the normal way; the grant is reclaimed by the employer afterwards.

Common questions

Before you book

Do I pay £298 or £1,498?

You pay the course fees of £1,498 for the pair. The £600 CITB grant on each qualification is paid by CITB directly to the levy-registered employer once the candidate achieves, which brings the effective cost down to £298. We supply the certification evidence you need for the claim.

Can I take just one of the two?

Yes. The Level 3 Award is £699 on its own and the Level 2 NVQ is £799 on its own, each with a £600 CITB grant available. The package simply runs both through the same programme and the same assessor.

Is there a classroom or an exam?

No classroom and no exams for the NVQ — it is assessed on site while you work. The Level 3 Award includes mandatory pre-course e-learning, which is completed remotely, followed by on-site assessment and training at work.

Does this get me a CSCS card?

The Level 2 NVQ Diploma is the qualification behind the Blue CSCS Skilled Worker Card. Once it is awarded you pass the CITB Health, Safety & Environment test and apply to CSCS — we guide installers through both steps. The Level 3 Award is an inspection qualification and is not itself a card route.

Can you do a whole team?

Yes. Group and contractor bookings are what this package is built for — site visits are arranged around your programme so you can certify the whole squad in one go. Tell us how many candidates and we will scope it on the call.

What if a candidate is not eligible for the grant?

Grant eligibility depends on CITB’s rules and your levy registration status, both of which sit with CITB rather than with us. If a candidate is not eligible, the course fee stands as listed. We will always be straight with you about this before you book.

Next step

Ready to get your team qualified?

Send us your candidate names and we will book the scoping call this week — we will confirm experience, agree the optional units and set the site visits around your programme.
