Why this course

Real instruments, real sites, a real qualification

01 — Hands on

Three full days on the machinery

This is not a classroom-only course. Three of your five days are spent working directly on the instruments used on live construction and infrastructure projects across the UK.

02 — Saturdays

Keep working all week

Every session is on a Saturday, so you do not lose a single day’s pay. Five weekends and the training is behind you.

03 — Card route

Supports your Gold CSCS Card

The Level 3 Diploma is the qualification behind the Gold Skilled Worker Card. Pass the CITB Health, Safety & Environment test and apply to CSCS — we will point you through both steps.

04 — Regulated

ProQual Level 3 Diploma

A nationally recognised, regulated qualification. The full specification is published by ProQual and you can read it before you enrol.

05 — For life

Never expires

The Diploma is a lifetime qualification. Once it is yours, it is yours — no renewals, no retakes.

06 — Small group

Limited places

The October intake takes a small number of candidates only, so everyone gets proper time on the Total Station rather than queuing for a turn.

The equipment

Three days hands-on with real kit

Three of your five days are spent working directly on the instruments used on live construction and infrastructure projects across the UK.

Total Station

Set out reference points, carry out as-built surveys, and learn precision angle and distance measurement.

GPS / GNSS

Work with satellite positioning systems — a rare and valuable skill even among experienced site engineers.

Levelling

Master optical and digital levels for height control, drainage falls and structural benchmarks.

Common questions

Before you book

When exactly does the October intake run?

Five Saturdays: 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 October 2026, at our Hatfield office. One day per week, and full attendance on all five is required.

How many places are there?

A limited number. We cap each intake deliberately so every candidate gets proper hands-on time with the Total Station, GNSS and levelling equipment rather than watching from the back. Call or message us and we will tell you what is left.

Do I need qualifications to start?

No formal academic entry requirements. Tell us your experience and we confirm the right route before you pay.

I already set out on site. Do I have to do the five Saturdays?

No. The experienced worker route is assessment only at £999 — you get the same Level 3 Diploma without the classroom days, with your assessor building the portfolio around the work you already do. We will confirm you are eligible before you pay.

Does this get me the Gold CSCS Card?

The Level 3 Diploma is the qualification the Gold Skilled Worker Card requires. Once the Diploma is awarded, you pass the CITB Health, Safety & Environment test and apply to CSCS — we will point you through both steps.

How long until I have the qualification?

The training is five Saturdays in October. The full qualification, including portfolio and assessment, typically completes within two to six months depending on how quickly evidence is gathered.

How does the 50/50 payment work?

You pay half when you enrol and the remaining half only when you complete the qualification — £800 each way on the full course, £499.50 each way on the experienced worker route. No interest and no credit check; just choose the 50/50 option at checkout.

Where is the training held?

At our office: DB College, James Taylor House, St Albans Road East, Hatfield, Hertfordshire, AL10 0HE. Easy access from the A1(M), and 25 minutes by train from King’s Cross.
