No. The whole qualification is completed through workplace assessment and portfolio evidence. Your assessor gathers observations, installation photographs, site documentation and professional discussions from the work you already do — no classroom sessions and no written exams.

There are no formal academic entry requirements. You should be aged 16 or over, working in a fire stopping or passive fire protection role, have a basic understanding of English and be able to provide workplace evidence for assessment.

Typical completion is around 12 weeks. The pace is set by how quickly evidence is gathered from your sites, and a Fast Route option is available at checkout if you need the qualification sooner.

The Level 2 NVQ is the qualification the Blue Skilled Worker Card requires. Once your NVQ Diploma is awarded, you pass the CITB Health, Safety & Environment test and apply to CSCS — we’ll point you through both steps.

Yes. The ProQual Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Passive Fire Protection attracts a £600 CITB grant for CITB levy-registered employers. The grant is paid by CITB directly to the employer once the candidate achieves, and we supply the certification evidence required for the claim. Grant eligibility and payment remain subject to CITB’s rules and your levy registration status.
