Who is the Level 6 NVQ for site managers?
This Level 6 NVQ is designed for experienced site managers and construction project managers who lead live sites, teams, programmes, contractors, quality and safety. There are no formal academic entry requirements: you should be aged 19 or over, working in a construction management or supervisory role, and have access to workplace evidence for assessment.

What evidence do you need for Level 6 NVQ Construction Site Management?
Your portfolio shows how you manage real construction work. Your assessor agrees an evidence plan with you and checks each item against the units in your pathway. You do not need to create a separate project just for the NVQ.
Planning and progress
Examples include construction programmes, work schedules, site meeting minutes, resource plans and progress reports. Explain your decisions, your responsibilities and how you responded when the programme changed.
Safety and quality
Relevant evidence may include RAMS reviews, site inspections, toolbox talks, quality checks and records of corrective action. Show how you implemented and monitored the controls, rather than supplying documents alone.
People and resources
Use records of workforce allocation, subcontractor coordination, material deliveries and team communication. Professional discussions, observations and witness evidence can help demonstrate your own contribution.

Is this NVQ suitable for construction project managers?
It can suit a construction project manager whose role includes managing site operations, teams, resources, programme and quality. The job title alone is not enough: your assessor checks whether your responsibilities cover the chosen pathway. If your work focuses on contracts or organisation-wide management, ask DB College to compare the appropriate qualification routes before you enrol.
NVQ Level 6 and SMSTS serve different purposes
SMSTS is site management safety training. The NVQ assesses occupational competence through your workplace evidence. SMSTS alone does not meet the qualification requirement for the Black Manager Card. The qualification itself
ProQual 610/3809/X — fourteen core units, then your pathway
This is the ProQual Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management (Construction), qualification number 610/3809/X. Every candidate completes the same fourteen-unit core, then a pathway matched to the work you manage. Total qualification time runs from 2,180 to 2,290 hours depending on the pathway, with 857 to 927 guided learning hours.

Your pathway then adds its own units — dimensional control and temporary works on building and civil engineering, customer service and project handover on residential development, planning demolition or tunnelling activities, retrofit installation and commissioning, and so on. Your assessor confirms the right pathway with you at induction.

Competence-based: you build a portfolio of evidence from the sites you already run, assessed against the ConstructionSkills assessment strategy, internally verified by our centre and externally quality assured by ProQual. There are no formal entry requirements; we carry out an initial assessment before you enrol. CSCS lists this qualification against Black Manager card occupations including building site manager, civil engineering site manager and residential site manager — the card is applied for separately, after the CITB Managers and Professionals health, safety and environment test.

A relevant Level 6 NVQ pathway can support an application for the Black CSCS Manager Card. You must also pass the CITB Managers and Professionals Health, Safety & Environment test within the two years before applying. CSCS checks your qualification and occupation and issues the card separately.
How does the 50/50 payment work?
