This is the ProQual Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Construction Senior Management, qualification number 610/4263/8. You complete six mandatory units, then optional units totalling at least 620 hours of qualification time, chosen to match the projects and commercial responsibility you already carry. ProQual sets 1,690 hours of total qualification time and 425 to 515 guided learning hours depending on the units you take.

Design development and processes, project briefs and outline programmes, sustainability and whole-life impact, procurement arrangements, contract preparation and negotiation, contractual disputes, tendering, estimates and bids, budgets and payment entitlement, marketing and customer service, project handover, and strategic procurement systems. Your assessor helps you pick the combination that matches your role.

Competence-based and assessed on a portfolio built from your own projects, marked pass or fail, internally verified by our centre and externally quality assured by ProQual. There are no formal entry requirements; we carry out an initial assessment before you enrol. CSCS lists this qualification against Black Manager card occupations including construction project manager, contracts manager and senior construction site manager — the card is applied for separately, after the CITB Managers and Professionals health, safety and environment test, and runs for five years.

Do I have to attend a college or training centre?
No. The qualification is completed entirely through workplace assessment and portfolio evidence. Your assessor gathers evidence from your real management activities — there are no classroom sessions and no traditional written exams.
Do I need any qualifications to start?
There are no formal academic entry requirements. You should be aged 19 or over, hold a senior management position in construction, and have access to workplace evidence — the projects, teams and commercial operations you already manage.
How long does it take?
Most candidates complete in 2–4 months. The pace is set by how quickly evidence is gathered from your role, so managers on busy projects often build their portfolio faster.
Does this get me the Black CSCS Manager Card?
The Level 7 NVQ supports your application for the Black CSCS Manager Card. Once your NVQ is awarded, you pass the CITB Health, Safety & Environment test and apply to CSCS — we’ll point you through both steps. It also supports progression towards MCIOB membership.
