Description

This qualification provides a nationally recognised qualification for those working as a site supervisor or assistant site manager in building and civil engineering, highways maintenance and repair, residential development, conservation or demolition.

This is a National Vocational Qualification which means that this qualification has been developed to be achieved in a real work environment. You need to be employed to undertake this qualification.

This qualification will enable you to demonstrate and recognise your skills, knowledge and understanding and to demonstrate your competence in a real workplace environment so you can work as a Construction Site Supervisor within the construction industry.

After completing this qualification, you will be able to apply for a Supervisor (Gold) CSCS card.

Who is this qualification designed for?

This is a competence-based qualification for experienced supervisors who work in the construction industry. The NVQ is used to show that you are competent and knowledgable in your current role. Achievement of this qualification provides a candidate with proof of competency across a broad range of issues relating to construction site management. These include, Health and
Safety, risk assessment, resource management and project management.

The awarding body for this qualification is ProQual Awarding Body and the regulatory body is the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual).

Candidates can specialise in several different area of Construction Site Supervision:

  • Building and Civil Engineering Pathway
  • Highways and Maintenance Repair Pathway
  • Residential Development Pathway
  • Conservation Pathway
  • Demolition Pathway
  • Tunnelling Pathway

Qualification structure

To achieve the qualification candidates must complete all of the mandatory units, plus the mandatory/optional unit requirements in one of the pathways:

  • Maintaining Systems for Health, Safety, Welfare and Environmental Protection in the Workplace
  • Assessing and Recommending Work Methods for Carrying Out Site Operations in the Workplace
  • Planning Activities and Resources to Meet Work Requirements in the Workplace
  • Coordinating and Organising the Control of Work in the Workplace
  • Controlling Work Progress Against Agreed Programmes in the Workplace
  • Allocating and Monitoring the Use of Plant, Equipment or Machinery in the Workplace.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification. However the candidates should be working within the industry to enrol in this NVQ.

Here at DB College we are conducting an initial assessment of candidate skills and knowledge to identify any gaps and help plan the assessment.

Assessment

Assessment is the process of measuring a candidate’s skill, knowledge and understanding against the standards set in the qualification.

This qualification is competence-based, candidates must demonstrate the level of competence described in the units.

The qualification will be assessed in line with the Construction Skills Consolidated Assessment Strategy and will be internally assessed by an appropriately experienced and qualified Assessor.

The assessment process is conducted through our e-portfolio system and it is formed of two parts:

  1. Knowledge – the candidates are required to complete a workbook
  2. Practical – the candidates are required to submit evidence from their work environment such as RAMS, minutes meetings etc.
