It assesses the competence of experienced pipefitters through evidence from their current work. Nuclear power stations
Pipefitting at Hinkley Point C: which card do you need?
Nuclear new build sites like Hinkley Point C in Somerset and Sizewell C in Suffolk want pipefitters qualified to Level 3. A Level 2 card is not enough on these projects — this Level 3 Diploma and the JIB Gold PMES card are the route in. Many people search for this as a “Gold CSCS card”: the JIB Gold card is the one that carries the CSCS logo for pipework.
Level 3 in pipefitting
Contractor adverts at Hinkley Point C ask for a Level 3 qualification in pipefitting, an ACE card or an equivalent qualification. This ProQual Level 3 Diploma covers the Level 3 part.
JIB Gold PMES card
With this Level 3 Diploma and the CITB Health, Safety & Environment test you apply to JIB-PMES for the Gold card — accepted on nuclear power station projects like Hinkley Point C. JIB-PMES is a CSCS partner scheme, so the card carries the CSCS logo.
CCNSG Safety Passport
Nuclear and engineering construction sites also ask for a CCNSG Safety Passport. It is a short course from an ECITB-approved provider, separate from this diploma.

What evidence do you need for Level 3 Pipework Installation Diploma?
Your portfolio may include technical drawings, installation photographs, material and component records, safe systems of work, inspection and testing records, and professional discussions. Evidence should show what you did and why. Your assessor confirms the required activities and checks that your projects provide enough evidence for the qualification.
Your evidence must be relevant, authentic and sufficient for assessment. Discuss confidential project information with your assessor before sharing documents. Completion depends on your duties, evidence and assessment progress.

Before you enrol
Do I have to attend a college or training centre?
No. The qualification is delivered entirely through workplace assessment. Your assessor gathers evidence from the work you already do — observations, photos, videos, testing records and professional discussions — so there are no classroom sessions and no written exams.
Do I need any qualifications to start?
