Why this qualification

The most accessible degree-level route in construction sustainability

01 — Open entry

No entry requirements

Open to anyone aged 19 or over. No degree, no prior qualification and no formal experience threshold to clear before you start.

02 — Knowledge based

Written work, not exams

Mostly knowledge-based and assessed through written submissions and professional discussions with your assessor. No exam hall, no timed papers.

03 — No role required

Case studies count

Where a unit has a practical outcome, the evidence can come from your real employment or from case studies and simulated scenarios — so you can finish the full diploma before sustainability is part of your day job.

04 — Chartership

A recognised route to MCIOB and CEnv

This diploma is recognised as a route towards MCIOB membership with the Chartered Institute of Building, and towards Chartered Environmentalist status.

05 — Regulated

ProQual, on the RQF

Awarded by ProQual, an Ofqual-regulated awarding organisation. Level 6 sits at bachelor’s degree level on the Regulated Qualifications Framework.

06 — Progression

A clear next step

Finish here and you can progress to the ProQual Level 7 Diploma in Environmental Management — master’s level, same remote delivery.

Common questions

Before you enrol

Do I need any qualifications to start?

No. There are no entry requirements. The diploma is open to anyone aged 19 or over — you do not need a degree or any prior environmental qualification.

I’m not working in an environmental role. Can I still do it?

Yes. The qualification is mostly knowledge-based, and where a unit has a practical outcome the evidence can come from your real employment or from case studies and simulated scenarios. You can complete the full diploma even if sustainability is not yet part of your day job.

Are there exams or classes to attend?

No exams and no classroom. Everything is completed remotely through written submissions and professional discussions with your assessor, at a pace that fits around work.

Does this really lead to chartership?

It is a recognised route towards MCIOB membership with the Chartered Institute of Building and towards Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) status. The diploma is a route towards those designations rather than an automatic award — you still apply to the relevant professional body, and we include IEMA application support to help you do that.

How long does it take?

Most learners complete in two to three months. The pace is set by how quickly you submit your written work, so there is no fixed end date pushing you along.

How does the 50/50 payment work?

You pay £550 when you enrol and the remaining £550 only when you complete the qualification. There is no interest and no credit check — just choose the 50/50 option at checkout.

What can I do afterwards?

You can progress to the ProQual Level 7 Diploma in Environmental Management, which sits at master’s level on the RQF and is delivered the same way.
