Why this course

Built for welders who can’t afford weeks off site

01 — No classroom

Zero days off the tools

The whole diploma is assessed where you work. No college, no evening classes, no written exams — your competence is proven through the welds you are already producing.

02 — Keep earning

Qualify while you work

Your day rate doesn’t stop. Evidence comes from live pipework: site observations, photos and video of your welds, work records and professional discussion.

03 — Fast

Typically 8–10 weeks

Most welders complete inside ten weeks. The pace is set by how quickly evidence comes in from your jobs, so a busy site works in your favour.

04 — Support

A dedicated assessor

You get a named assessor from day one who plans your portfolio around your booked work, arranges the site visits and keeps your employer updated.

05 — Ofqual regulated

ProQual accredited

ProQual Level 3 Diploma in Welding Construction Pipework, Ofqual regulated under number 603/2927/0 — recognised on sites across the UK.

06 — For life

Never expires

The diploma is a lifetime qualification. Once it is yours, it is yours — no renewals, no retakes, on every site you ever work.

Common questions

Before you enrol

Do I have to attend a college or training centre?

No. The qualification is assessed entirely at your workplace. Your assessor gathers evidence from the welding you already do — site observations, photos and video of your work, work records and professional discussion. There are no classroom sessions and no written exams.

Do I need any qualifications to start?

There are no formal entry requirements. You should already be welding construction pipework, with access to a site where evidence can be gathered. This is a competence-based diploma, so what matters is the work you can demonstrate.

Which welding processes are covered?

TIG, MMA, combined TIG/MMA, MIG/MAG and flux cored. You complete four mandatory units and then two optional units chosen to match the processes you use — your assessor confirms which at the initial skills assessment.

How long does it take?

Typically 8–10 weeks. Completion depends on how quickly evidence is submitted from your jobs, so welders on busy sites often finish sooner.

Does this get me the Gold CSCS card?

The Level 3 Diploma supports progression towards a Gold CSCS card, subject to the card scheme’s current occupation and application requirements. Depending on your employment and the welding or mechanical pipefitting work you carry out, you may also be eligible to apply for the JIB-PMES Mechanical Pipefitter Gold Card. JIB-PMES checks the qualification certificate, relevant industry employment evidence and Health, Safety & Environment requirements before approving the card. We will help you check the correct route before you apply.

Next step

Your experience already did the hard part.
