Gold Card

There are two routes to a Gold CSCS card, and the one you need depends on what your day actually looks like.

Advanced Craft is for tradespeople at the top of their occupation. If your day is mostly on the tools and you want the senior card for your trade, a Level 3 NVQ in your occupation — steel erecting, pipework installation, insulation and building treatments, engineering surveying, moving loads and more — leads to the Gold Advanced Craft Card.

Supervisor is for people who run other people’s work. If you supervise gangs, coordinate trades or manage work on site, the Level 3 NVQ in Occupational Work Supervision, the Level 4 NVQ in Construction Site Supervision, or SSSTS leads to the Gold Supervisor Card.

A simple test: if you are mostly on the tools, it is Advanced Craft. If you are mostly running other people’s work, it is Supervisor.

Every qualification on this page is assessed at your workplace. There is no classroom and no written exam — your assessor builds the portfolio from the work you already do, through site observations, photographs, work records and professional discussions. You keep earning throughout.

How the Gold Card route works: complete your Level 3 or Level 4 qualification, pass the CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test at the appropriate level, then apply to CSCS. There are no formal academic entry requirements — what matters is that you are doing the work and can evidence it.

Most courses offer a 50/50 payment option: half when you enrol, half when you complete, at 0% interest with no credit check.
